Humans have multiple senses for a reason! Experiencing Art on multiple planes is the root of Dr. Evilletown’s work and artist research. Using music, sound, video, public art, and movement, she is essentially a collagist sourcing material and phrases from a variety of techniques. She is a multidisciplinary artist continuing to push and redefine what that means. Her performances and video works often meld into public art experiences. These pieces can stand alone, or work together, allowing multiple permutations of sharing, and experiencing the works for any and all. Multiple possibilities for consumption create multiple opportunities for connections. Making work that is accessible for as many people as possible is a motivation that has guided her practice for over a decade.
Dr. Evilletown is an alias constructed initially as an experiment. In the early 2000s the artist found that she received more opportunities if her gender or race was unclear. This character allowed her to wear literal and metaphorical masks while making the project encompassing this character, easier to digest. By acccepting the character of Dr. Evilletown, a viewer or listener has already accepted a fixed element that is out of the ordinary. This prepares a certain open-mindedness, allowing audience members to accept multiple layers of artistic disciplines.
